A LEADER'S
LEGACY TUN ABDUL RAZAK
Discuss whether or not Tun Abdul Razak's son, our current prime minister, Datuk Seri Najib is continuing his father's legacy primarily in affirmative action policy.
Tun
Abdul Razak was the second prime minister of Malaysia. He is the father of
development. During his administration as a prime minister, he was launching
the Malaysian New Economic Policy where this policy is to help poor people and
to reducing inequity among people especially Malays who live in rural area. His
target is to reduce the poverty among Malays. He was the person who is
responsible creating the affirmative action, which is by providing social and
economic privileges to majority Malays population. Nevertheless, his son, Datuk
Sri Najib Tun Razak which is the current prime minister does not continuing his
father’s legacy primarily in affirmative action policy. This is because Datuk
Sri Najib was launched a campaign known as 1 Malaysia where this campaign is
for Malaysians people. 1 Malaysia is a concept where all Malaysian is equal.
Meanings that all people are the same even with different races, religion,
colour and also position. All people will get benefit through this campaign. It
is clearly that Datuk Sri Najib does not continuing his father’s legacy.
AL JAZEERA 101 EAST: MALAYSIAN AFFIRMATIVE ACTION.
Choose one of the three guests featured on the talk show 101 East. Then apply discourse analysis in order to understand of his argument. State whether you agree or disagree towards the proposition, premises and arguments that you have identified
New Economic Policy (NEP) is actually a system that providing social and economic privileges to majority of Malay’s population and it become huge problems among the other ethnics where they claims that NEP is unjust. In Al Jazeera 101 East the talk show about New Economic Policy (NEP), the guest that I choose is Azeem Farouk who is a political scientist.
Discourse Analysis
CONCLUSION
NEP should have to make a new strategy in order to gain confident from people
PREMISE 1
NEP is a good policy that will always be relevant regardless of ethnicity and races
ARGUMENT 1
NEP has two strategies which are reduction of poverty and also restructuring of society
PREMISE 2
The NEP has to be fine tune and implemented to benefit everyone across the board
ARGUMENT 2
There should be some form of policy that could be in support the majority group
Based on the discourse analysis above, I would like to agree with his statement on all his premises. He stated that the NEP should have to make a new strategy in order to gain confident from people. This is because the other ethnics and races tend to said that NEP is actually unfair for them where it is just helps Malays and not the Malaysian’s people. They also need the same privileges like Malays. Not all the people in their society are the rich people. There are also poor people that might need the help. Therefore the government and political party should consider regarding this matter where they should provide help and support for the other races in order not to be unjust and to live in peacefully without any conflict or whatsoever.
Agree with you on Tun Abdul Razak's legacy as Najib focusing on 1Malaysia concept. And, for affirmative action, i love how you arrange your points.
